GRASS!!!

We have GRASS!!! We haven't had any grass since... well never... it was all weeds!

Here is where the concrete walk and trench were at...

And here is where our big dry-well is (aka: The Pit)...

Now all we have to do is put down our stone walkway that connects the driveway to the front door... let the winter do its work and compact the fresh dirt... add new dirt in the spring and level it out again... and plant new grass (currently we have Rye which will die sometime in June).

We're thinking Zoysia!

The Front Lawn!!!

OK, now I'm no landscaping expert... but I've really tried hard to do this right. Our front lawn has always been a big mess. Weeds and no grass... pooling water that doesn't drain... front walk that stops 10 ft. from the road... did I mention lots of water and the weeds?

So, what we did was kill 99% of whatever was growing in the yard... dig trenches in the yard with a shovel... yes, hand dug out with a shovel.

Then bust up the sidewalk with mallet (ok, so it was a jack-hammer)... and use the crushed concrete to help make the trench 'french' drains (got to recycle)...

clean out the rest of the unused concrete... add at least another 3 cubic yards of top soil... try to smooth it out with a garden rake... throw out some grass seed... water lawn... now wait for grass to grow and for it to rain.

I'm short a few pictures showing the trench filled in... and currently we're raking the rest of the front yard to get out any remaining weeds, smooth out more dirt, and finish sowing grass seed.

Note: Even though this was a project that I wanted to do, Elizabeth got out there with me and worked her little butt off. She got blisters on her hand... and blisters on her blisters. Angel, I know I owe you a new pair of gloves... but let me tell you again thank you for all your hard work... we would still not be done right now if it wasn't for you... please, take a bow.
I hope to post of picture of GRASS very soon!

A New Beginning...

OK... this is an attempt to jump start posting here again. I may still try and actually create us a new web-page... but that is another story.

Today's news... we're traveling to Chattanooga for a VSE mainframe conference. A lot of geeky old guys who don't know what the sun looks like. Yeah! My kind of people. :-)

Seriously, it will be good to make the trip... it will be our last time to wrap up anything while we're up there before we return for our Wedding.

Yep... that's right. May 21st in Chattanooga, TN (actually Lookout Mountain).

OK... now let's see if I can actually work on a web-page... or if this turns into my once every few months post.

Long time since last post....

OK, OK... I know its been a long time since I posted anything here, but I guess that just shows how little has been going on.... either that or I tend to be a bit lazy.... nah.

It has occurred to me that we don't have any pictures of the house up... nothing that you can tell anything about anyway, soooo... ... here you go.

What do you think? OK, OK... not my house.

Yes, these are more pictures of two palm-type trees that we brought inside... but man, those things are huge.

The Herb Garden Bed

Now, I know its flawed... and slightly warped even... but at least its now here. Let the rains come, and the herbs grow... please... please... let the rains come and the herbs grow!

Thank you to my sweet angel Elizabeth for all your help... and your herbs!

Wade Garden of Greensboro Street

OK..... we had to start someplace, and this is what it looked like before and after I had cleared the weeds, vines, and other underbrush.

Then you till up the ground... hoe up some rows... plant your little plants... and Presto! Garden! We have yellow squash, Japanese eggplant, burpless cucumber, sweet corn, zucchini, about 9 or 10 different kinds of tomatoes, and 9 or 10 different kinds of peppers. (OK... so, how do you know what does best if you don't plant them all, right?) And don't get me started with the herb garden... that part comes later.

And then... the first signs of veggies... little tomatos and a mexibell pepper.

I'll update more pictures as things progress...

p.s. Now about that herb bed....

Kitchen table

OK... so when we moved into the house, there was this bench area where a table used to be... but alas, no table. I told Elizabeth that I could have it done in practically no time at all (I said two weeks)... two months later, and I finally got it put in. Sorry Elizabeth, but at least I finally got it done.

First you design and build it... then you prime and paint it (sanding in between each layer - 7 total).. then you build your wall mount... then you assemble it... then you use it! Thank you Elizabeth for making the homemade veggie pizza! Awesome!

As hard as I tried to make this thing perfect... nope. Somewhere along the line, I got a messurement wrong... I don't know how, but it happened. The outside leg already had a spot on the floor... and I missed it. Grrrrr!

Here is a picture of the original table before the previous owners took it out.
